How to Compress a PDF to 100 KB or 200 KB (Free, No App)

Updated 18 October 2026 · 5 min read

Step-by-step: shrink a PDF to under 100 KB, 200 KB or 500 KB for government portals, job and exam forms — free, in your browser.

Why portals ask for 100 KB or 200 KB

Government, university and job portals limit upload sizes to keep their servers fast. Common limits are 100 KB, 200 KB, 300 KB, 500 KB and 1 MB. A scanned page from a phone is usually 1–5 MB, so it gets rejected.

Steps to compress a PDF to a target size

Open the target-size workflow and follow these steps:

  • Upload your PDF (it stays on your device — nothing is uploaded to a server).
  • Choose the target, for example 200 KB.
  • SolveIt compresses the pages, checks the size and keeps optimizing until the file fits.
  • Download the smaller PDF and upload it to the portal.

If the PDF still doesn't fit

Very small limits (under 100 KB) are hard for multi-page scans. Try these:

  • Upload only the pages that are required — use Split PDF to keep page 1, for example.
  • Scan in black and white instead of colour; it is much smaller.
  • Crop extra margins from photos before converting them to PDF.
  • Use Strong compression mode. Text stays readable for most documents.

Is it safe for ID proofs and certificates?

Yes. Compression runs completely inside your browser, so Aadhaar, PAN, marksheets and bank statements never leave your phone or computer.
