How to Create a Strong Password You Can Remember

Updated 18 October 2026 · 4 min read

What makes a password strong, why length beats symbols, and simple habits that keep your email, bank and social accounts safe.

Length matters most

A long password is much harder to guess than a short complex one. Aim for at least 12–16 characters. A passphrase of four or five random words is both strong and easy to remember.

Never reuse passwords

When one website is hacked, attackers try the same email and password on other sites. A unique password for every important account — email, bank, UPI apps and social media — stops this.

Simple habits that protect you

Follow these rules:

  • Use a password manager to remember passwords for you.
  • Turn on two-step verification (OTP or authenticator app) for email and banking.
  • Never share passwords or OTPs on calls, SMS or WhatsApp.
  • Check how strong a password is before using it.

Generate one in seconds

The Password Generator creates random passwords in your browser — they are never sent anywhere. Use the Password Strength Checker to test one you already have.
