How to make a photo or signature the right size in KB and pixels for SSC, UPSC, banking, university and job application forms.
Read the notification first
Every form lists its own rules for the photo and signature: file type (usually JPG), size range in KB and sometimes dimensions in pixels. Rules change between exams and years, so always check the official notification before uploading.
Typical requirements look like this — photo 20–50 KB, signature 10–20 KB, JPG format.
Steps for the photo
Use the exam-form photo workflow:
- Take a clear, front-facing photo against a plain light background.
- Upload it and crop to the required shape (most forms use a portrait passport-style crop).
- Set the target size in KB — for example 50 KB.
- Download the JPG and check the size shown before uploading.
Steps for the signature
Sign with a black pen on white paper, take a photo in good light, then:
- Crop tightly around the signature.
- Use the Signature for Form workflow to clean the background and set the size.
- Make sure the signature is still sharp after compression.
Common rejection reasons
Avoid these mistakes:
- File larger or smaller than the allowed KB range.
- PNG or HEIC instead of JPG — convert it first.
- Blurry, dark or tilted photo.
- Signature in blue or on lined paper when the form asks for black on white.
